Stillborn, registration in Key Register of Persons (KRP)

As of 3 February 2019, it is possible to submit a request to register your stillborn in the Key Register of Persons (KRP). You need to do this in the municipality where you live. To register you need to go to the town hall.
To enter your stillborn in the KRP the duration of the pregnancy is irrelevant. How long ago the birth took place is also irrelevant.

What do I need to register my stillborn?

You need a document from the civil registry stating that your child was stillborn. For example a certificate of stillbirth.

No certificate yet?

You first register your stillborn in the municipality where your child is born. During the registration of your stillborn you can also request entry in the KRP.

Request to register in KRP only for yourself

The request to register your child in the KRP only applies to yourself, not to the other parent. In case the other parent also wants to register the child, he or she must submit a request to this end separately. Your child is only added to your personal record sheet in the KRP.

Submit a request

To submit your request we kindly ask you to make an appointment. The municipal desk in the town hall of Brunssum has limited opening hours at this time. This is due to the measures taken by the central government to combat the spread of the corona virus. By restricting the opening hours to apply for products (daily from 09:00 to 12:00 and on Thursday also from 17:00 to 19:00), the municipality of Brunssum aims to reduce physical contact and in doing so, protect the health of visitors and its own employees. To make an appointment during these limited opening hours, please contact us by telephone on +31 45 52 78 555.

Please bring with you

  • Valid identification;
  • If in your possession, a certificate of stillbirth.

Registration in the KRP is not mandatory

Registration is only done upon your request and is not mandatory. If you change your mind, we can undo the registration upon your request at any time.

When is registration in the KRP no longer possible?

If you were not living in the Netherlands at the time your child was born and you were not registered in the KRP, you cannot submit a request to register your stillborn.

Who can access the information about my stillborn?

The details of your child can only be viewed by you (for example through MijnOverheid) and by the Civil Affairs Desk of the municipality.
