Registration of a birth

Congratulations on the birth of your baby. You need to register the birth within 3 days in the municipality in which the child is born.

Registration

To register a birth please make an appointment with us by phone on +31 45 52 78 555.

Costs

  • € 14 for a copy of the birth certificate. The registration itself is free.

You can pay in cash or with your debit card.

Please bring with you

  • Valid identification (passport, ID card or driving licence)
  • A marriage certificate or partnership certificate (if available)
  • If applicable, an extract from the acknowledgement of your child
  • Letter from midwife or hospital

Conditions

  • If the third day after the birth is a Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday, you can register on the next working day.
  • The father needs to register the birth. If that is not feasible, one of the following persons must register the birth:
    • The mother of the child
    • Someone present during the birth
    • The head of the institution (e.g. the hospital) where the child is born
