Safety / NL-Alert

With NL-Alert people can be warned if an imminent danger presents itself in a certain region. They receive a warning message on their mobile phone. The message explains what has happened, what the danger is and what you should do. This is about your safety!

What is NL-Alert?

NL-Alert is a warning signal from the authorities for mobile phones. With NL-Alert the authorities can notify citizens in the immediate environment of an emergency situation by means of a text message.

In the message information is given about the emergency in question and what people need to do.

NL-Alert is an addition to already existing warning means like siren alarm, website security region or emergency broadcasts.

How does NL-Alert work?

The authorities send a text message to mobile phones in the immediate vicinity of an (imminent) emergency situation. NL-Alert is based on cell broadcast and not on SMS. As a result, NL-Alert also works when the network is congested.

NL-Alert is free and anonymous.

With NL-Alert your privacy is guaranteed.

Messages are sent in the area where the emergency situation occurs. Name and telephone number are not required and, therefore, remain unknown.

In which situations do the authorities use NL-Alert?

NL-Alert is used in life-threatening and health-threatening situations, like a huge fire in which toxic smoke is released, explosion hazard or flooding.

How can I receive NL-Alert messages?

To receive NL-Alert, your phone must be compatible and you need to activate NL-Alert in the settings of your mobile phone.

On the website of NL-Alert you can find more information.
